Wes Anderson - The French Dispatch
The French Dispatch is Wes Anderson's 10th film to date and came out in British Cinemas on 21st October 2021. I went to see it on Sunday 24th October and it is a day that I will never forget, the film made such a huge impression on me.
I have seen Wes Anderson's films before, my favourite so far being The Grand Hotel Budapest. His latest film, The French Dispatch is about a French magazine, (based on the history of The New Yorker magazine) there are four chapters all with a different theme and filled with many hilarious characters, it is a comedy. There is so much to see, the set, fashion and interiors styling is extremely complex and there is so much detail that it's hard to take it all in...it is sensory overload! I paid so avid attention to every scene but sometimes I felt that I couldn't keep up. It was evocative thoughts and feeling and laughter and felt very abstract. I absolutely loved it and felt so inspired afterwards. I also found it very funny, I was laughing out loud in some parts but when I looked around the auditorium I was the only one laughing! I don't think that everyone gets it. I would see this film again and I definitely recommend it, the New Yorker certainly does like it, apparently https://www.newyorker.com/culture/the-front-row/the-french-dispatch-reviewed-wes-andersons-most-freewheeling-film
I urge you to go and see the film if you have not already done so.
